Why generic advice doesn't work

"Follow your passion." "Work harder." "Just be yourself." We've all heard this advice, and almost none of it changes anything. Why? Because generic advice is optimised for sounding true, not for being useful.

The problem with one-size-fits-all

Good advice has to meet you where you are. "Take more risks" is terrible guidance for someone who already takes too many, and useful guidance for someone who takes none. The advice didn't change — the person did. That's the whole point.

What makes advice actionable

Actionable guidance has three qualities:

  • Specific — it names a concrete behaviour, not a vague direction.
  • Context-aware — it accounts for your situation, not the average one.
  • Testable — you can try it and see whether it works.

Why we built reports around this

That's exactly why KLWO reports are generated from your answers rather than written as general essays. The input changes the output — which is the only way advice can actually help.
